If you're new to C1, it can be a bit intimidating to get used to. In this Quick Tip, I'll show you how to make it look and feel more like Lightroom, but with all the benefits that C1 offers.

Although there is a lot of overlap between LR and C1 - they look and feel much different. The interface, and certain tools work quite differently. This is one reason you might be tempted to not stick with using C1. - But you would be missing out on some great benefits that C1 has.

Thankfully for LR users, C1 offers 2 main features that help you make the transition. The first is changing the workspace to look more like LR. C1 lets you move most of the interface around including tools, tabs, viewer, browser and more. Instead of doing this manually - they have included a workspace called "Migration" which puts the browser along the bottom and all the tool tabs along the right side - this is much more familiar for LR users.

The next feature you can use to make C1 feel more like LR is reassigning keyboard shortcuts. We have a Quick Tip video showing exactly how to use and reassign keyboard shortcuts (so be sure to check that out) but you can easily make C1 have the same LR shortcuts you are used to by clicking Edit > Edit Keyboard Shortcuts.

Some of these can be:

  • assigning the backslash key to before/after
  • R to the crop tool
  • colour tags to the the same numbers in LR
  • and so on

So now you know how to use the Migration workspace along with renaming keyboard shortcuts to make your C1 experience much closer to LR. (Except with better image quality, stability, naming options, advanced export recipes.... OK - I'll stop now)
